Kyoto, Kanazawa, Shirakawago, Takayama

Nearing the end...

We finished up Kyoto and changed things up by exploring a couple of smaller towns.

Kyoto

So far I've shown a lot of pictures of temples and shrines and each is certainly worthwhile and special in its own way... but none of them have been made of gold.

Covered in gold flake technically, but never let the truth get in the way of a good story

As far as incredible sights go, this was certainly up there.

Before moving onto our time in Kanazawa I wanted to show a few miscellaneous photos of things we saw in Kyoto.

You can get fortunes from shrines. If the fortune is negative, you're obligated to tie it up here to get rid of it

Attached to this stone are wishes. You crawl through the hole forward if you want something new. You crawl through the hole the other way if you want to quit something

Kanazawa

Kanazawa has a much smaller population than the other cities we've visited so far. It's known for it's historical mercantile district, Higashi Chaya, as well as myriad shops.

Shirakawago

Shirakawago is a small town mostly known for the section of buildings made in a particular unique, historical fashion. It was freezing while we were there, but the village's singular rustic beauty was well worth a visit.

I mean, right?

That's all for now. About to explore some of Tokyo and visit the Ghibli Museum.
